Configuring Demand Manager

The following sections provide guidance on preparing your system for Demand Manager. These steps assume that you are familiar with basic administrative steps, such as modifying process apps in SBM Composer and deploying them, as well as performing tasks in SBM Application Administrator. The information also assumes that you have administrative privileges required to perform these tasks.

Configuration steps include:

  1. Determine which applications will be used for demand views. (These are referred to as "demand item applications" in this document.) You can use the provided Business Requests application, your own applications, or both. If you have implemented Serena Service Manager, you can use the Change Management application discussed in Change Management Integration.
  2. If you choose to use your own applications as demand item applications, perform these steps:
    1. Recommended Demand Item Process Setup
    2. Add the Demand Widget to Custom State Forms
    3. Add the Pause Status Field
    4. Configure Demand Item "Split" Capabilities
    5. Preparing Listing Reports for Demand Views
    6. Enable Time Capture options if you want to record the amount of time spent on planning activities. For details, refer to Enable Time Capture Options.
  3. Determine which process apps will be used as to store work items, and then peform the steps in Preparing Work Item Process Apps for each process app.
  4. Prepare user accounts following the steps in Preparing User Accounts.
  5. Create resources, resource teams, job functions, and skills. For details, refer to Preparing Resources and Time Capture.
  6. Subscribe users to notifications in the Demand Plan application. For details, refer to Subscribing Users to Notifications.
  7. Follow these steps to configure Demand Center:
    1. Create Demand Categories
    2. Create Plan Portfolios
    3. Sharing the Default Backlog Plan with Users
    4. Define a Scoring Matrix
    5. Customize the Demand Center Shell
  8. Optionally, refer to Preparing the Demand Plan Process App and perform common customizations as needed.
  9. Optionally, add Demand Plan reports to Serena Request Center. For details, refer to Configuring the Approvals Tab.
  10. Optionally, create services in Serena Request Center for demand item and work item process apps. For details, refer to Defining Service Requests.
