Preparing Work Item Process Apps

You can use any process app to store work items. Minimal configuration is needed. For details, refer to About Work Item Process Apps.

For best results, perform these steps:
  1. Add the Demand Widget
  2. Enable Time Capture Options
  3. Assign Privileges to Work Item Users

Add the Demand Widget

  1. Add the Demand Widget to each work item process app.
    To add the Demand Widget:
    1. In SBM Composer, determine which custom state forms should contain the Demand Widget.
    2. For each form, add the Demand Widget.
Tip: For best results, add the widget in a container that expands all columns or on a separate tab.
    3. On the JavaScripts tab for the form, select the Include jQuery plug-in check box.
    4. Deploy the process app.
    5. Repeat for each process app as needed.
Note: Use of the Demand Widget is optional, but it enhances Demand Manager by enabling resources to associate work items with demand items in in-flight plans. The Demand Widget also provides a view of plan details that may not be otherwise visible to resources who are assigned work items.

Enable Time Capture Options

Enable Time Capture options for each work item process app.
Time Capture options can be enabled or disabled at these levels:
  • System

In SBM Application Administrator, use Time Capture options in the Base Workflow to enable or disable this feature for transitions and states in all workflows and projects.

  • Application Workflows

In SBM Composer, enable or disable Time Capture options for all states and transitions in specific workflows.

  • Projects

In SBM Application Administrator, set or override Time Caption options for all states and transitions in some projects assigned to a workflow, but not others.

  • States and Transitions

Explicitly show or hide Time Capture options for individual states and transitions in workflows (SBM Composer) or projects (SBM Application Administrator).

You can also require resources to enter the amount of time spent on an item for all transitions in your system, in specific application workflows, for all transitions in a project, or for individual transitions.
Note: In earlier versions of SBM, Time Capture options can be only set at a system level, or for workflows or projects. The ability to show or hide options for states and transitions or to require them for transitions is only available in SBM 10.1.2.1 and later.

Assign Privileges to Work Item Users

Follow the guidance in Work Item Users to prepare user accounts for work item process apps.
