Importing Data Into Your Database → Using the Import Data Wizard → Mapping External Source Fields to SBM Fields → Specifying Constant Field Values for Import
The Options: Set Field to Value During Import dialog box enables you to specify a constant value that will be used to populate the selected SBM field for all items after import. You can specify a constant value for receiving fields that are not mapped.
For details on field mapping, refer to:
Consider the following information before setting constant values for fields:
For best results, when you define constant values for Multi-Group, Multi-Relational, Multi-Selection, Multi-User, Single Relational, Single Selection, and User fields, specify values that apply to all workflows and projects you are importing to. If you specify a constant value that is disabled selection at a project or workflow level, the value is disabled after import as well. Users must provide a valid value for the field before completing an update or transition on items that contain fields with these disabled values.
If you select a constant value for the State field, all imported items will reside in that state. To assist you in selecting the correct state, the workflow from which each state is inherited is listed in the Options: Set Field to Value During Import dialog box.
When you specify a constant value for an SBM field, and later map the SBM field to a source field, the constant value is removed.
You cannot provide constant values for Summation fields.
You can set Multi-Group, auxiliary Multi-Relational, Multi-Selection, Multi-User, auxiliary Single Relational, Single Selection, and User fields to have a constant value of "None" after import. This can be useful if you are re-importing data and want to clear previously imported values for fields.
The following information and options are available on the Options: Set Field to Value During Import dialog box:
Process App Field – Displays the logical field name of the SBM field and the field type.
Set This Field to Have the Following Constant Value – Select this check box to enable the possible selections for the field or to provide a constant value. You can set a constant value for various field types as described in the following table.
Field Type | Available Constant Values |
---|---|
Binary/Trinary |
The list of selections for the field appear in the list. Select a constant value, and then click OK. |
Date/Time | Type a constant date/time value in the format specified next to the field type. For example, if you are providing a constant value for a Date only field, type a value in mm/dd/yyyy format. |
Folder | Folder fields are not available for mapping or for setting a constant value. |
Multi-Group | The list of selections for the field appear in the list. Select one or more constant values, and then click OK. |
Multi-Relational | You can provide a constant value for auxiliary Multi-Relational fields, but not primary Multi-Relational fields. The list of values available for the auxiliary table associated with the Multi-Relational field displays; select one or more constant values, and then click OK. |
Multi-Selection | The list of selections for the field appear in the list. Select one or more constant values, and then click OK. |
Multi-User | The list of selections for the field appear in the list. Select one or more constant values, and then click OK. |
Numeric | Type a constant value in the box that corresponds to the Numeric field settings for the SBM field, and then click OK. |
Single Relational | You can provide a constant value for auxiliary Single Relational fields, but not Primary Single Relational fields. This list of values available the auxiliary table associated with the Single Relational field displays; select a constant value, and then click OK. |
Single Selection | The list of selections for the field appear in the list. Select a constant value, and then click OK. |
Summation | Constant values do not apply to Summation fields. |
Text | Type a constant value in the box that corresponds to the Text field settings for the SBM field, and then click OK. For example, if your SBM field is a Fixed Length field of 20 characters, make sure your constant value is no longer than 20 characters. |
User | The list of selections for the field appear in the list. Select a constant value, and then click OK. |
