Importing Data Into Your Database → Importing Data From Another SBM Database → Mapping SBM Source Fields to Destination Fields
The Map External Source Fields to Destination Fields dialog box is provided for mapping fields from the database you are importing from to fields in SBM. You can also specify constant values for destination fields and map user-type and selection field values as needed.
Considerations for mapping source fields from TeamTrack or SBM databases to SBM fields:
All destination fields that begin with an asterisk (*) must be mapped to a source field or you must specify a "constant" value that is set for all imported records. For details on providing constant values, refer to Specifying Constant Field Values for Import. For details on mapping State field values, refer to Mapping State Field Values.
You can map source fields to multiple destination fields; you can also map multiple source fields to Multi-Selection, Multi-User, Multi-Group, and auxiliary Multi-Relational fields.
When you map the Item ID field, project settings that ensure ID number uniqueness are not applied and you may have duplicate Item IDs in these projects. To maintain legacy Item IDs, create a field in the receiving database to map the legacy Item ID field to.
You must map the Item Type field if you want to include the Item Type prefix with Item IDs in the receiving database. For example, if you do not map the Item Type field, Item IDs appear only with the numeric ID number in the receiving database, as in 00106. If you map the Item Type field with the source Item Type field, the Item Type prefix imports with the selection, and displays with the Item ID, as in BUG00106. If you choose to map another field to the Item Type field, you can specify prefixes later.
The following information and options on the Map External Source Fields to Destination Fields dialog box apply to imports from other TeamTrack or SBM databases:
Unmap All Fields – Click this button to unmap all source fields and destination fields.
Source Field – The left pane contains a list of fields from the source table selected on the Specify Data to Import dialog box. The list contains the database field name and type for each field. When a source field is mapped, it is marked with a plus (+) sign.
Destination Field – The right pane contains a list of all SBM fields available for mapping in the destination table selected on the Specify Data Destination dialog box. If you are importing data into specific projects, make sure the fields you mapped are available in the receiving project. The right column of the right pane displays the mapping status for each destination field as follows:
Empty – If the right pane is empty next to a destination field, this field has not been mapped and a constant value has not been provided for the field.
Field Name – When a destination field is mapped to a source field, the source field name is listed in the right column of the right pane.
Set to - When a constant value is set for the destination field, [Set to: VALUE] appears in the right column of the right pane.
Map – To map fields, select a source field and a destination field, and then click Map. Consider the following information when you map fields:
When you map the first User or Multi-User field in the Destination Field column, the Options: How to Map Field Values dialog box opens. You can then define user mapping that applies to data in all User and Multi-User fields you import with this Import Option Set.
When you map each Single Selection and Multi-Selection field in the Destination Field column, the Options: How to Map Field Values dialog box opens. You can then define selection mapping for the field.
You can manually map State field values. For details, refer to Mapping State Field Values.
Unmap – To unmap fields, select a mapped field in the right pane, and then click Unmap.
Options – This button enables you to set mapping options for the selected destination fields based on the following criteria:
Unmapped Fields - Click Options to open the Options: Set Field to Value During Import dialog box and specify a constant value to populate the selected destination field for all items after import. If you want to set a constant value for a mapped field, unmap the field, and then click Options. For details, refer to Specifying Constant Field Values for Import.
Mapped User and Selection Fields – Click Options to open the Options: How to Map Field Values dialog box and map values for User, Multi-User, Single Selection, or Multi-Selection fields.
Mapped State Field – Click Options to open the Options: How to Map State Values dialog box. For details, refer to Mapping State Field Values.
After mapping source fields to destination fields, specifying constant values for destination fields, and mapping user and selection field values as needed, click Next to continue.
