Mapping LDAP Users and SBM Contacts

The Contact Map tab enables you to map user account attributes defined in the LDAP schema to fields in the SBM Contacts table. The mapping assignments defined on the Contact Map tab apply to importing and updating Contact records. For details, refer to Importing Contact Records From LDAP to SBM.

Note: You must enter LDAP server connection settings and search parameters in SBM Configurator and successfully connect to the LDAP server before mapping attributes. For details, refer to "Configuring LDAP Authentication" in the SBM Installation and Configuration Guide.

To map LDAP user attributes to Contact fields:

From the Options menu, select LDAP Setup & Tools. The LDAP Setup & Tools dialog box opens to the General tab; select the Contact Import tab.
From the Filter drop-down list, select one of the provided search filters or type your own search filter. The search filter you provide depends on how user accounts are organized in LDAP and the type of Contact records you want to import.
Select the Contact Map tab.
The MAP LDAP Contact Attributescolumn initially does not contain any LDAP user account attributes. Click Refresh LDAP List to populate the column with LDAP attributes and sample data based on the filter selected on the Contact Import tab. By default the Admin DN is used to populate the list of attributes. If the list does not populate, you may need to provide a Login ID and Password in the Test User Authentication section of the General tab first. The attributes will then populate using that account. The following attributes are listed for LDAP and Contact records:
- LDAP Contact Attributes – Only LDAP attributes that contain values are listed. For example, if a sample user account does not have a value for the Mobile attribute in LDAP, this attribute is not listed. For best results, select a sample user account that has values defined for all LDAP attributes you want to map to Contact table fields. You can also click the Refresh LDAP List button to repopulate the Map LDAP User Attributes column with other LDAP user attributes. User attributes are listed based on the order they are stored in the LDAP directory.
- SBM Contact Fields – This column lists the following Contacts table fields:
  - All non-system, fixed-length Text fields
  - The Company system field
Select an LDAP user attribute and a Contact field that you want to map, and then select the right arrow button. A checkmark is placed next to the LDAP attribute in the LDAP column, and the attribute is listed in the LDAP area of the SBM Contact Fields column.
Continue to map LDAP attributes to Contact fields as needed.
After LDAP attributes and Contact fields are mapped, select at least one field to use as an Equality Key, and then click Set Equality Key. A checkmark displays next to the SBM fields selected as the Equality Key. The Equality Key is required for importing Contact records and helps ensure uniqueness of Contact records. Consider the following information when you select an Equality Key:
- Equality Key values must be identical in LDAP and SBM. The match is not case-sensitive, but space usage must be identical.
- Values in Equality Key fields are never updated when you use LDAP Import or Update features in SBM, so choose fields that have values you expect to remain constant.
- First Name and Last Name fields might not be the best choices for Equality Keys due to possible duplicate values, name changes, misspellings, etc. An e-mail field might be a better choice.
- If your LDAP configuration contains an attribute such as a Customer Number, consider creating a similar field in the Contacts table and using these as an Equality Key. Remember when you create the field in SBM Composer that only fixed-length Text fields can be mapped to LDAP attributes.
To clear an Equality Key, select the field in the SBM Contact Fields list, and then click Clear Equality Key.
To remove an attribute mapping assignment, select a row in the SBM Contact fields list, and then click the left arrow button.
Click OK to save your settings and exit the dialog box. Click Apply to save your settings and continue working in the LDAP Setup & Tools dialog box.
