New Product Dialog Box

The New Product dialog box allows you to define a new product in the base database.

Rules and Guidelines

Product ID

Specify the identity of the new product. This value must be unique within the base database.

  • Required.

  • Up to 10 characters.

  • Can only contain alphanumeric or underscore characters.

Based On

Select an existing product that you want to use as the basis for the new product. The process model and attributes of that product will be copied to the new product.

  • Required.

  • Default: $GENERIC.

Description

Describe the product. This description will be used throughout the Administration Console.

  • Required.

  • Up to 240 characters.

Variant

Specify the default variant which will be used for this product whenever new design parts and items are created. If you do not want to use variants, accept the default A value.

  • Required.

  • Up to 128 characters.

PCS (revision no.)

Specify the default part change status (PCS) that will be used for this product whenever new design parts are created. The PCS specifies the version number of the product's design parts.

  • Required.

  • Up to 3 characters.

Product Manager

Select a Dimensions user to be the Product Manager for the product. The Product Manager will also be the PCMS Role Manager and PCMS Part Manager for the product. The PCMS Role Manager is able to make user role assignments, and the PCMS Part Manager role is able to perform design part operations. You can assign both the PCMS Role Manager and the PCMS Part Manager roles to other users at particular levels in the design tree structure.

Change Manager

Select a Dimensions user to be the Change Manager for the new product.

Optional.

Parts Controller

Select a Dimensions user to be the Parts Controller for the new product.

Optional.

Copy the design part structure from the base product

Select this option if you want to copy the design part structure from the base product. If you do not select this option, the new product will be created with a single top-level design part with the same name as the product ID.

Optional.

Attributes Tab

Allows you to specify values for the attributes that are assigned to the product selected in the Based On field.
