Selecting a Mass Update Action

Mass update actions are transitions, including update and delete transitions, that you can perform on the selected items. Your privileges, workflow configuration, and the items selected determine which transitions are available, based on the following criteria:

Actions for primary items
- Actions are listed by the state you are moving items to and the state they are moving from. "Resolve from Assign" is an example of an action for primary items.
- The list of available transitions depends on the state in which selected items reside. If selected items reside in the same state, all valid transitions from that state are available.
- If selected items reside in different states, transitions with an ending state of "any" are available. For example, if you select a transition such as "Update From Any," it updates items in any state, depending on your privileges.
  Tip: To move items to a different state using mass update, search for items in a particular state, and perform the mass update from the results list.
- Post Item or Create Subtask transitions are not available for mass updates; however, Copy transitions are available for mass updates.
- Transitions that are set to require attachments are not available for mass updates.
Actions for auxiliary items
- Depending on your privileges, Update and Delete are available.

To select a mass update action:

Select the items you wish to mass update. For details, refer to Selecting Items to Mass Update.
On the Select an Action page, select the transition you wish to perform.
If you select a copy transition that requires you to select a project at runtime, you must select a destination project from the list. The mass update will make a copy of each selected item in this project.
Click Next.
Note: If you select an invalid action for items, they are not updated by the mass update, but you may be able to individually update them. For details, refer to Viewing Mass Update Results.
