Using the Mass Update Feature

Mass updates enable you to make the same change to multiple items at the same time. For example, you can transition multiple items to an "assigned" state at once. You can use the mass update feature to transition, update, and delete multiple primary items at once and to update and delete multiple auxiliary items at once.

Tip: Use the Rich Editable Grid to make a variety of changes to information in multiple items at the same time from a grid view. For details, refer to Using the Rich Editable Grid.

You can mass update items if you have the appropriate privileges and your administrator has enabled fields for mass updates.

In general, mass updates can be performed from:

Search by Keyword/Submitter results
Advanced Search results
Knowledge Base search results
Listing report preview lists
Listing report results
ID Search results

Mass updates cannot be performed from the following item lists:

Global Search results
Folder lists

To update multiple items at once:

Select the primary or auxiliary items you want to mass update. For details, refer to Selecting Items to Mass Update.
Select an action, such as update or transition, for your mass update. For details, refer to Selecting a Mass Update Action.
Modify field values as needed and complete the mass update. For details, refer to Modifying Fields Values in Mass Updates.
View the results of the mass update. For details, refer to Viewing Mass Update Results.
