Finding Items → Using Search Features → Tips for Using Search Features → Using Wildcard Characters in Searches → Advanced Lookup and Relational Field Value Lookup Wildcard Searches
The following criteria apply to wildcard character searches in the Advanced Lookup Tool and the Relational Field Value Lookup:
By default, a wildcard character is automatically appended to the end your search criteria as long as you do not specify your own wildcard characters. In this case, all items beginning with the search criteria are returned. This applies to all Text fields, except the Item ID field.
If a percent sign (%) appears next to a field, wildcard characters are prepended and appended automatically to your search criteria as long as you do not specify your own wildcard characters. All items containing the search criteria are returned.
For Numeric fields, wildcard characters are prepended and appended automatically to your search criteria.
If you do not enter search criteria, the SBM User Workspace returns all results as if you entered a wildcard.
When you search the Item ID field, wildcard characters are not added to your search criteria, but leading zeros are. If there are leading zeros on the ID number, they may be left off your search criteria. For example, to find item ID number "BUG00017," type "17." To search for multiple items by Item ID, separate each Item ID with a space.
When you look up information using search criteria in multiple fields, the search criteria entered for each field must match the record to receive the correct results. For example, if you are searching the Contacts table and enter a "j" in the First Name field and an "a" in the Last Name field, all contacts whose first name begins with J and last name begins with A are returned.
