Creating Groups and Assigning Roles and Privileges

You must assign at minimum the RLC - Administrators group to get started using Release Control.

Adding Groups

In SBM Application Administrator, add groups that will identify Release Control users. We recommend creating at least one group for each role in Release Control as follows:

Assigning Groups to Project Roles

After the groups have been created, assign each group to the corresponding project role and any additional project roles that may be required. The project roles, which are defined in the related process applications, give the group members privileges to that project. For additional details on how to assign a group to a role, see the SBM Application Administrator Guide.

Important: The RLC - Approvers role is required to initiate the deployment into environments that require approval. Other roles do not include approval privileges.

Setting Privileges Not Set in Snapshots

The following tables are generated when the Release Package snapshot is promoted:

Because these tables are generated after the first time the Release Package process app is promoted, they cannot be given privileges through roles. Therefore, the privileges must be set for your groups (or users, if you give user-level privileges) after you have generated the view and promoted the Release Package process app the second time.

The following table gives:

Note: After you have assigned your groups to the RLC roles, if you do not see the RLC Deployment or DU tables listed in their Table privileges, the views were not generated properly. See Generating Views for Deployment Path Reports and Troubleshooting the Deployment Path.
