You assign a project/stream work area as the location for the item files for the project or stream you are working on. This is a location on a local hard drive or network node that is used for the item files in item operations such as Update or Deliver within the stream or project. The item files will be organized beneath this location in a folder structure that corresponds to the folder structure of the project/stream. Changing your work area for your Dimensions CM user does not change this default for other users of that project/stream.
Your work area can be:
A folder on your local machine, for example C:\temp or a Dimensions CM remote node, for example UNIXHOST::/temp
A managed Dimensions CMwork area that you can create using the desktop client or the Administration Console. This has the advantage that other users can use the same area as their project work area. For details, see the Process Configuration Guide chapter, Area Definitions, or see Creating a Work Area.
