Using Deployment Automation → Managing Components → Component Processes
A component process is a series of user-defined steps that operate on a component's artifacts. Each component should have at least one process defined for it and can have several. These typically define the configuration information you want to do on the target resources for each component.
You can use variables in properties to represent the actual resource name and other entities, to make the processes flexible enough to execute in multiple environments, such as INT, UAT, and PROD. You can use properties and variables to pass values to the various processes you use to deploy and configure your applications.
Component processes are created with the Deployment Automation process editor. The process editor is a visual drag-and-drop editor that enables you to drag process steps onto the design space and configure them as you go. Process steps are selected from a menu of plug-in steps.
Deployment Automation provides plug-ins for several standard utility processes, such as inventory management and workflow control and native Deployment Automation operations. Additional process steps are provided by plug-ins.
Deployment Automation provides plug-ins for many common processes, such as downloading and uploading artifacts, and retrieving environment information. See the Serena Deployment Automation Plug-ins Guide for more information.
A frequently used process can be saved as a component template and applied to other components.
