About Target Servers

Because a process app is deployed to an environment, the environment must have defined target servers that handle the following situations:

The process app contains an orchestration. By default, the BPEL Server target server is used.
The process app handles events raised by an SBM application or external product. By default, the System Event Manager target server is used.
The process app is part of a Service Support Manager (SSM) solution or a project that is configured for Service Level Agreements (SLAs). By default, the Common Services target server is used.
Note: This target server is created automatically when a process app snapshot associated with SSM or SLA is promoted.

If a process app does not apply to these situations, it is not necessary to define a target server. A process app of this type will be executed by SBM Application Engine.

Note: Technically, SBM Application Engine is a target server; however, it is available by default and does not need to be added. You will note that the list of target servers specifies that SBM Application Engine is not included.
