Connecting to SBM System Administrator Using ODBC

A connection to the database from SBM System Administrator can be established using ODBC. This requires an ODBC System DSN on the administrator's computer pointing to the proper data source and access to the database.

To connect to SBM System Administrator using an ODBC connection:

  1. From the File menu, select Connect. The Connect dialog box opens.
  2. Click ODBC Data Source Name.
  3. In the Data Source box, type or select the name of the ODBC data source to which you want to connect.
  4. In the Database Login ID box, type the name for the database account you want to use to connect to the database.
  5. In the Database Password box, type the password that corresponds to the provided database login ID.
  6. Click OK.
Tip: Any user, administrator or not, who successfully connects to the SBM database via ODBC has full access to the system. So, in effect, anyone who uses an ODBC connection is automatically a global administrator. A good way to restrict ODBC connections, and thereby limit the number of unauthorized global administrators, is for your organization's database administrator to issue passwords only to those administrators who need full access to the SBM database.
