As you begin to customize the process apps to fit your needs, consider
the following general best practices:
- If you create more fields, prefix the database names with an
identifier such as "MY_". This will avoid possible conflicts in later versions
that introduce new names.
- If you want to customize forms, copy the form and change the copy.
This makes merging the process app easier later when you decide to upgrade. You
can merge the updated process app, keeping your custom forms. Then, look at the
new forms in the app and decide if you want to use your form or the new
provided forms. Again, prefix the new form name with something to make it
unique.
- Keep a document or create a small process app to track your
customizations. This will help with upgrades later. You can look at the list
before the next upgrade to know areas on which to focus testing and items that
need to be re-configured because the upgrade might have removed them.
- Many of the displays depend on reports, and use the reference name in
reports to access them. You must be careful not to change the reference name in
these reports unless you also change it in the process apps. You should
document any changes for future reference so that you can reapply the changes
upon upgrade if needed.
