Promoting ChangeMan ZMF Change Packages

Promote Package copies package components from staging libraries into test libraries. As a package is promoted from one testing level to the next, package components are removed from libraries in the prior level and copied from staging libraries into test libraries for the next level.

Only FULL type is available.

To configure a promote change package action in a deployment task:

Create or edit a task and select the Promote action.

In the UI, point to each field for additional information.

Some of the fields are described in the following table.

Field	Description	Example Values
Application	Select the application that has the change package you are promoting.	<select an application>
Package Name	Click the link icon to select a change package. From here, you can: Use available items: Select change packages that have already been added. Use available configurations: Search for existing change packages or create new ones. This uses Dimensions CM Change Package Item configurations. See Associating Change Packages with Deployment Units and Creating Change Packages.	<select a change package>
Environment	Select each environment in which you want to execute the task. These are the environments configured in the deployment path. For example, Dev, Test, and Prod.	<select Dev>
Promotion Site	For each selected environment, select a site.	<select siteName>
Promotion Environment	For each selected environment, select the promotion level for the selected site. This field requires the site to be selected in the preceding field.	<select promotion environment>
Schedule Options	For each selected environment, select the schedule option and fill out the additional fields that open based on your selection. Options include the following: None Specific Time Opportunity Window Time Window Delay Hold Until Released

Note: After you create the deployment task, if you have not linked a change package, the task appears in the list in red, and you must then associate the related change package with the deployment task.

Promotion and Demotion Rules

Promotion and demotion rules that may be set for your change packages. For more information on rules, see the ChangeMan ZMF documentation.

These rules regulate the movement of components from Promotion libraries to staging (for editing) and back again.

0 Allows the promotion and demotion of components even if the change package has not yet been frozen. This is liberal promotion and demotion.
Note: For ChangeMan ZMF version 8.1.1, the package must be in frozen status before it can be promoted or demoted.

Rules 1 thru 4 restrict promotion to Frozen (status FRZ) packages only:

1 Requires selective demotion of a component followed by selective unfreeze, edit, and promotion directly back to the package's promotion level.
2 Requires selective demotion of a component followed by selective unfreeze, edit, and promotion through all intermediate promotion levels.
3 Requires full demotion of the entire package followed by a selective unfreeze, edit, and promotion through all intermediate promotion levels.
4 Requires full demotion of the entire package followed by a revert of the entire package to DEV status.
