The Git Client Plug-in enables developers working with Git to access Dimensions CM from integrated development environments (IDEs). The IDEs execute Git commands that are redirected to the Git Client, which synchronizes the changes with a Dimensions CM repository.

Supported IDEs

Git Client Plug-in 1.0 supports the following IDEs:

• Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 (15.0) and later.
• Microsoft Visual Studio Code 1.22.2 and later.
• Eclipse IDE 3.8.2 and later. Eclipse requires eGit plug-in 4.5 or later.
• Jet Brains IntelliJ IDEA 2018.x and later.

Installing

To use the Git Client plug-in, install your software in this order on the same machine:

1. Install your IDEs.
2. Install Git. Note that Microsoft Visual Studio has its own bundled installation of Git.
3. Install the Dimensions CM Git Client.
4. Install the Dimensions CM Git Client Plug-in.

Git Client plug-in 1.0 supports these features:

• Clone a stream from Dimensions CM and populate the master branch in a Git repository with the tip of a stream.
• Use the fetch and pull commands to update a local Git repository with changes from Dimensions CM. When you pull changes, each CM changeset becomes a commit in a local Git repository.
• View a Dimensions CM request inbox (not supported by Eclipse).
• Set or remove a default working request.
• Relate a request to a Git commit.
• Push changes from a Git repository to Dimensions CM. Each Git commit becomes a Dimensions CM changeset, including the user ID and timestamp.

• Stream names must not contain spaces.
• The Eclipse plug-in does not provide access to Dimensions CM request inboxes. To relate a request, in the Commit Message field enter the request ID in square brackets on a separate line: [request ID]
• You may not be able to push changes to a remote repository after using the Git reset command.
• Does not support projects, IDM requests, and CAC authentication.

• Unable to clone a stream and all child streams (e.g. /*) using Visual Studio Code and IntelliJ IDEA.
• Error messages in Visual Studio 2017 do not have much detail.
