Use this dialog box to create a new item by adding a file to Dimensions CM.
Use the General tab to specify the filename and related requests of the new item.
See Attributes Tab/Page for how to view and change the user-defined attributes of the item.

Select this option if the item consists of a single file. |

Select this option if you want to create a single item consisting of a folder together with its files and subdirectories. |

virtual item |
Select this option if you want to create an item with no content. Virtual items are primarily used for controlling hardware configuration items, rather than software. |

location |
Type the name of the file or folder that you want to store as an item, or click the Browse button to find it. |

Item Description |
Type a description for the new item. |
|
After Item Added |
To leave the file in your work area folder, select Leave workfile as read only. To delete the file in your work area, select Delete workfile. |

Owning Design Part |
Type, or accept, the name of the design part to own the new item. Or click the Browse button and use the Selection Wizard to find a design part. |

Related Requests |
Type the name of one or more requests, or click the Browse button and use the Selection Wizard to find requests. |

Item ID |
Type the ID of the new item, or accept the default value of <auto-generate>. Note:You cannot use the following characters in the item ID:

If your process model rules are set to automatically generate the item ID from the project filename, leave as <auto-generate>. |
Project Filename |
Type the filename of the new item, or accept the default value of <auto-generate>. |
If set to <auto-generate>, Dimensions CM generates a project filename using the project root folder name and the name of the file that is added. |
Item Type |
Select or accept the item type. |
The default item type is determined by your process model. |
Data Format |
Select or accept the item format. |
The default item format is determined by your process model. |
Item Variant |
Type the item variant, or accept the default. |
The default is the variant for the product. |
Branch |
If required, select the branch for the new item, or leave as <default>. |
The value <default> defaults to: n The user’s project default branch if one is set. n The default branch for the project if no default branch is set. n No branch if there is no default branch. |
Revision |
Type the initial version number to be used for the item. |
The default is the default revision for the project. |
Revision Description |
Type a description for the revision. |
The default is Initial revision. |
